Chocolate Chip Cookies

These chocolate chip cookies are fast and easy to make. Also, there are no fancy ingredients involved, so there's no excuse not to make them! Depending on the cooking time, you can make them chewy, crunchy or both.

Chocolate Chip Cookies

1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 cup chocolate chips
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup cold butter
1 tsp. hot water
1 1/2 cups flour
1/2 cup walnuts
1/4 tsp. salt
1 egg

Instructions

Mix everything except the nuts and chocolate chips by hand or with an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment. Keep mixing until a thick paste is formed, making sure not to overheat the mixture. Add nuts and chocolate chips, mix and make small balls with the dough (the texture should resemble playdough). Set dough balls on a tray, cover with saran wrap and refrigerate. Meanwhile, preheat oven to 392 F and place a silicone mat or wax paper on an oven tray.

Once the oven is heated, place refrigerated balls on the tray, squishing them a bit and making sure to leave space between them. Cook in the oven for about 10 minutes or until lightly golden. The cookies harden as they cool, so it is convenient to do a test with a couple of them to calculate baking time

Remove from the oven and place on a wire rack to cool. Immediately after baking, the dough will still be soft, so it's best to transfer the whole silicone mat or paper to the wire rack to cool, instead of trying to manipulate the cookies one by one. For chewy cookies, reduce baking time and for crunchy cookies, increase it.

NOTE: If you are intending to make more than one batch, make sure to let the tray cool before placing more refrigerated dough on it. If the tray is hot, the dough will soften and the cookies will spread too much.

Grab a glass of milk and enjoy!
